The Expo 2020 public realm comprises of commonly used urban areas at the Expo 2020 Dubai site. The star attractions of the public realm are the three Expo Entry Portals, designed by Asif Khan, one of the main architects for the Museum of London, and through which all visitors will pass through to enter the Expo. The gigantic structures are made from carbon fibre and resin, stand 21 metres tall, and weigh a total of 29.4 tonnes. The intricate geometric design of the gateways almost serves as an optical illusion, making the Portals look different, depending on not only the angle from which the attractions are viewed, but also the time of day they are viewed. The public realm also features an innovative lighting system that is designed to follow the circadian system, and will adjust in accordance with the passage of the Sun. The landscaping incorporates local plants, grasses and shrubs, and will feature a network of different lanes for pedestrians, buggies, and other vehicles.
Proscape was contracted to execute the soft landscaping and irrigation, for the project. Water In Motion, a group company, was contracted to execute the water features for the project.
