At the heart of Expo 2020 is Al Wasl Plaza, a 150-diameter open space that is the centrepoint, connecting all three Thematic Districts. The Plaza represents the ambition of universal strength and connection, featuring a titanic 67.5-meter high trellised projection dome, that delivers an all-around holographic experience, and can be viewed on either side of the structure. The dome stretches 130 metres in diameter, and employs over 2,500 tonnes of steel used in its construction. The Plaza will also comprise food and drink outlets and lush green parks for families to picnic, as well as hosting continuous concerts, performances and events, for the duration of the Expo. The lead architect for the landmark project was Adrian Smith + Gordan Gill Architecture, and the landscaping was designed by SWA, USA, to replicate a tropical atmosphere that will be a stunning contrast to the desert outside. Located adjacent to Al Wasl Plaza is the Rove Expo 2020 Hotel, that is the only hotel inside Expo 2020 Dubai, and is at the heart of all the action.
