The beating heart of Expo 2020 Dubai is its Thematic Districts, that are named Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity. Each district has been designed in the shape of a desert-rose petal, and emanate from the core of the Expo 2020 Dubai architecture, that in turn hosts the global convention’s crown jewel, Al Wasl Plaza. The Districts together make up the largest constructed area of Expo 2020 Dubai, comprising eighty-six exhibition buildings. They are anchored at the tip of each petal by their individual Pavilions, that characterize their core message. Designed by Hopkins and Partners, UK, the districts are designed to evoke Old Dubai, and feature facades that resemble traditional Emirati wind towers and walkways planted with flourishing indigenous flora. Each district, additionally, has its own unique character, and the colours and themes reflect as such: Opportunity is inspired by the desert, with its bright orange and yellow colours; Sustainability reflects its ‘green’ philosophy; and Mobility glows blue with its futuristic technology. Proscape was contracted to execute the complete landscaping works for the Sustainability District and Mobility District. This includes hard landscaping, soft landscaping, irrigation, landscape lighting, water features, and the installation of raised planter and urban furniture.
